AN EDWARDIAN CASED GREY HEADED WATTLED LAPWING (MICROSARCOPS CINEREUS) BY ROWLAND WARD (1848-1912)

England, circa 1906

On a rectangular plinth, walking on the faux-mossy ground, in a very naturalistic pose, with an ivorine label to interior Grey Headed Wattled Lapwing - Kiukiang Yang-tse Kiangor, R.O.B.B. 6 March 06

W. x 44 x H. 33 x D. 19.5 cm

Note:

This excellent piece shows the simplicity in which Rowland Ward was master. It is almost as if he made a cut-out from the river-bed in China, with the bird walking there coincidently, and put it in the glass display.
