A rare Japanese export lacquer secretaire, possibly for the American market

 

Circa 1800-1830

 

Overall densely decorated with flower sprays and landscapes, minutely inlaid with mother-of-pearl and abalone. The lacquer with a deep black gloss. With red copper mounts in the form of flowers, masks and European motifs
