Note:
Depictions of large Dutch ships and exotic Dutchmen, with their long hair, big noses and long pipes, were very popular with Japanese tourists coming to Nagasaki in the 18th and 19th century who bought them as souvenirs. Before Admiral Perry forced Japan to open its harbours to Western traders in 1859, the Dutch were the only Westerns allowed to have a trade settlement in Japan on the small island of Deshima in the bay of Nagasaki.
