Coromandel Coast or Sri Lanka, 1740
With an inlaid decoration of stylized vines, leaves, flowers and stars, the inside of the lid inlaid with initials and date C.E.T. and I.P.C.T. ANNO 1740.

Note:
As in most Dutch colonial document boxes the interior of the present box has a tray for pens over two small hidden drawers.
The initials on the inside of the lid probably stand for the names of a couple married in 1740 in one of the Dutch trade-posts on the Coromandel Coast or Sri Lanka. Unfortunately so far we have not been able to find out who’s initials they are
