A Chinese diorama representing an opera performance
Anonymous, late 19th/early 20th century
The scene finely made, with figures in papier-mache, dressed in silk, the interior in carved wood, watercolour paper and feathers, against a painted background, mounted in a, carved, painted wood frame.
H. 37.2 x W. 52 x D. 17 cm
Note:
This diorama came to the Netherlands in 1946, after the second world war, in the possession of a Chinese family from Indonesia/Batavia. Therefore it was probably made in China-town Batavia.
